Mimi and Bunny

Meet Mimi and her stuffed bunny named Bunny. A non-glazed ceramic figure that has become a source of inspiration — design and health. Allow me to explain.

Constant moving has rendered me unrooted and displaced. Packing and unpacking can be a tedious task but, personally, effects go beyond the physical. It’s only recently that I realised what I’ve been wanting to happen for quite some time now, which was to nest. Build and settle.

I’ve had plans of fixing my old room. Though circumstance had left these plans untouched until a few weeks ago. I had returned to the place where I grew up. Now, I have started on the process of building a nest, a space to call my own.

Favourite meal of the day — Breakfast.

Particular with what’s served. From bacon strips to french toasts. Poached egg to an omelette. Pancakes and waffles, smothered with butter and maple syrup. Fresh orange juice, coffee or english tea. I want my meal to be especially cooked for that time of the day.

Normally, if we study our line of vision, we only view things from one angle. From that focal point we can visualise, compose, and create a specific image. But if we turn our head a bit, either towards the left or the right, everything changes. A different angle, a different scope, and yes, a different image.

Moreover, you can even take photos while looking up or, like in this case, looking down. Yea, it helps to look down. Sometimes.

Twas during my nephew’s play time in the garden. I had no idea why he wanted to walk in circles around me than afternoon but he was laughing; clearly having fun, so who was I to stop him? I decided to take his photo.

What fascinated me was how the photo turned out. It would always remind me of that particular moment in that fun afternoon of play with such vividness. I believe that the manner on how the photo was composed played a huge role in helping me remember.

Remembering. I guess one’s perspective will determine how she or he would remember things, huh?

Trivia: Photo taken using a Sony DSC-S40; my sister’s old garden in Mawson Lakes, Adelaide, Australia; November 2005.

It’s all in how you see these things, I guess. It doesn’t really have to look stiff and boring. Light, angle and depth can make your gadget photo achieve a certain softness and mood like art.

Then again, the gadget can exude a certain artistic characteristic that all you have to do is take the photo. Showing the fluid lines, texture and change in tones. It’s challenging actually.

I’ve yet to take a photo of my latest toy, a Nokia E71. Now, I happen to think that that phone is a good example of art in technology. Though, I may just be biased.

Sometimes, I’d pause and weigh if it’s best to toil and rebuild or to just leave it be. There’s a certain beauty in the rumbles, you see. Aged, rough, discoloured, and life seems to have flourished around it.

I’m sure of its majesty when it was first built. Any new thing always has that particular attractive element. It’s always fresh and novel.

But what of museums and historical sites? Why are they more precious than any new thing? I’m still looking to find an answer to that question.

Personally, I believe that beauty and value comes with time. Aged, rough, discoloured and esp because life had flourished around it.

Trivia: Photo taken of the Ta Prohm Temple (think Tomb Raider) situated somewhere in the Angkor Region, Siem Reap, Cambodia; February 2008.
